I know by this time most everyone has heard about and seen the imagery from the huge storm that hit the Philippines this past week. Over the last 1.5 years, through the use of oDesk (online job marketplace I highly recommend), I have come to know and depend on several people in the Philippines to help me run my business and manage administrative things in my personal life. While none of them were personally impacted by the storm, I asked if one of them wouldn’t mind sharing a Filipino perspective with my readers, most of whom are in the States. Here is her perspective:
The full extent of Haiyan’s Wrath (local name Yolanda) was something nobody, no country could have been prepared for. It was the deadliest, natural disaster on record to hit a country that is no stranger to major storms but this was unprecedented, unthinkable … the destruction, massive, to say the very least. Finding the right words to describe it all is a struggle.
As many as 10,000 people are believed to have perished; many are still unaccounted for, still missing. Cities and towns destroyed beyond words. You simply cannot take it all in: there is no way you can. A heart can only bleed at the sight of the unimaginable tragedy. Dead bodies on the road at that time. There is no drinking water, no food. Rampant looting and other unimaginable things.
Many countries expressed full support but until now – after 5 days almost everyone is still asking for help.
As we are approaching the holiday season, and getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving, I ask that we all take a moment to think about those in the Philippines, and consider what we can do to help.
Nice Job!! Proud of You!!!!
